Holy Cow, we're in full swing now!
Since we've decided to partner with the Drifters Car Club & the Sacred Pistons Car Club to join their Steeltown Shakedown, things are moving forward at a lightning pace! We're SO excited for this year, we really think it's going to be our best rally yet. And apparently we're not the only ones that think so, because we're getting a lot of amazing donations from some great places.
What does that mean for you? Well, I'm glad you asked. For everyone that shows up on a bike, we're giving away a rally bag full of great stuff. Included in the bag will be a rally patch, pin, & sticker, as well as some raffle tickets. We're also going to throw in stickers, coupons, and whatever else we can from our donating friends. Think of it as our way of saying "Thank You" for making the rally possible. Because honestly, we can't do it without you guys.
So are you getting excited yet? We can't wait see you all again in September!

It's Officially Official!
This is it! The moment you've been waiting for!
The Official Announcement of the 2012 Steel City Mods vs. Rockers Vintage Motorcycle & Scooter Rally
Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 1 pm - 6 pm
At the Twin Hi-Way Drive-In
Here's a link to a map!
Soooo........guess what's so awesome about this?
We're teaming up with the Steeltown Shakedown to create one of the best events in Pittsburgh! Mods vs. Rockers will still have our rally with our prizes and our vendors, but now your ticket also gets you entry into one of the coolest vintage car shows around. You can trust me on that one, I go to the Shakedown every year and I always have a blast.
And because our overhead on this is much smaller (no city police to hire! no ugly fencing to put up!) we're passing the savings onto you! If you show up on a bike, tickets are still $10 but now spectators can show up and pay only $5 to check out all the cool machines.
We are SO excited to be a part of this fantastic vintage event. And we can't wait to see you there!
So go spread the word! Go on, do it!!

Looking for Something To Do This Saturday?
It's been pretty quiet on our end, lots of waiting means little to do. But we know you're just as anxious as we are to show off your pretty little things.
This Saturday is Chipped Chopped, a barbeque with vintage bikes. Head on over to Rocky's in McKees Rocks and check out the vendors, DJ, and of course the food. Prizes will be awarded to bikes in several categories.
You can learn more about it at their facebook page. And if you stop down, you can check out my newest acquisition......
See yinz there!

Oh, I Promise We're Still Working
I swear. Really.
Our application is still in at the Special Events Office, but honestly....we're not optimistic. Last year we got approval fairly quickly, and this year everyone has to jump a thousand more hurdles. As of right now, the Special Events Office is planning to have a sit-down board meeting to discuss our application. So.....we're still waiting.
HOWEVER, we do have a Plan B. We're talking with another councilman from another neighborhood about using a different street. I don't want to specify who & where just yet, as everything is still hypothetical right now. But he is also having a meeting with local businesses and residents THIS AFTERNOON(!!) to feel out the situation. From what we hear, the businesses are excited to host the rally, we just have to win over the hearts of the locals.
I'm going to be honest here. Nicole & I are uncomfortable with how long this is all taking. We realize it is super late in the year and we don't have much done. If and when we finally get approval for a location, I can promise you we're going to hit it hard and do all that we can to make this a great year. But at this point, I'd be a fool if I thought we could do it ourselves. I'm going to have to rely on you guys to help make this a successful event because in reality, it's you guys that do that anyway. I can't tell you how appreciative we are of all the kind words and thoughts that you all send our way, and that is truly what makes this a pleasure to plan. I will go to a hundred town hall meetings just to see you all happy this August (but please don't make me do that).
That said....does anyone have suggestions for a location where we can possibly get approval fairly quickly?
More info when we get it,
~Laura

Calling in the troops!
Ok, so.....we've hit a tiny snag. And by tiny I mean kind of substantial.
There is a group in Bloomfield that was pretty upset over the road closures last year, and they've started a campaign to keep us from having the rally again on Liberty Avenue this year. And though I can't say this for sure, I'm pretty sure none of them attended the event to see how beneficial it was to the community, and what a great family-friendly event to have to enjoy the weather.
So now is the part where I ask for your help. Nicole & I will be speaking at a Town Hall Event on March 28 to help address the concerns this group has, and try to alleviate some of the tension that has built over the past 7 months. We would love it if our attendees could attend to either show their support, or even contribute to the discussion and shed some positive light on the rally. We want to put a face to the rally, so this group can see that we're not a bunch of misfits revving our engines & scaring children.
The Town Hall Meeting will take place on March 28 at 6 pm in the auditorium at the West Penn Hospital on Liberty Avenue. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at Laura@OnTheNoseEvents.com.
Hope to see you all there!

What's the Hold Up?
Have you seen the updated website? Well, have you? It's ok if you haven't, go check it out now. I'll wait.
www.steelcitymodsvsrockers.com
Back? Ok, cool! What do you think? I know it's pretty much the same, but I spent a fair bit of time picking out just the perfect pictures to show off how much fun we had last year. And did you see the new logo? I know it looks a bit hard to read when it's small, but trust me...it will look GREAT on t-shirts! You want one of those, right?
So. I suppose we should tackle the elephant in the room. Why haven't we announced a date yet, and why does the website say TBD?
I'd like to think it has everything to do with how successful we were last year. We had about 500 bikes and about 600 attendees show up. We literally ran out of wristbands & had to start marking hands with sharpies! If you came during our peak, you may have even found it hard to find a spot to park your bike. We almost ran out of room!
C'mon Laura, get to the point.
Okay, okay! Last year, we worked with Karla Owens of the Bloomfield Development Corporation to make sure everything ran smoothly with the local residents and businesses. And for the most part, everything did run smoothly. But...600 people crammed into a few blocks, let's just say it ruffled some feathers. As with our first year, Liberty Avenue was a new location for us, so there was a bit of a learning curve. Though we felt we had organized everything we could, there were some things we just couldn't anticipate, such as the effect of the detour on the traffic. And as you may or may not know, we definitely heard about it.
I truly feel that the reason the rally is so successful (aside from the awesome, awesome motorcycle & scooter community in Pittsburgh) is because Nicole & I are meticulously detail oriented and try to prepare for every eventuality. To that end, we have included some more people and organizations into our planning process to make absolute certain that everyone is happy and every issue is addressed. Unfortunately, that means the whole process is slowed down a bit.
So where are we at now? We are applying for our permit to shut down Liberty Avenue this week and if the timeline follows last year's, then we'll have our official date in about two to three weeks. Rest assured, it will be a Saturday in August. But which Saturday? Nobody knows.......
Haha just kidding. We know. And we'll let you know as soon as we can.

Website Woes
I've been working really hard on updating the website and I've stumbled upon a HUGE oversight.
I have NO pictures of any of the contest winners! I don't even have a single photo of the trophies!!! How did we let that happen??
Well actually, I know how. Nicole & I are always so busy during the rally, we just don't have time to take photos. And our friend Christian who usually takes a ton of photos for us was also busy volunteering last year. Though his photos are definitely all over the updated site, he wasn't able to snap any of the contest.
Our flickr group is great and has 517 (!!) photos, but none are of the winners or trophies!
Can any of you dear readers help a gal out? If you have any photos of either our trophies or contest winners, please send them to me at laura@onthenoseevents.com. Thanks for any help!
